A little about me
Born and bred on the Llyn Peninsula, originally from Llanbedrog but now based in Sarn Bach Nr Abersoch with my Wife (Benita) who is a hair stylist and the Co owner of BB's hair salon in Abersoch, and our daughter (Oonagh) who is doing her degree in Biomedical Science at Liverpool John Moors University.
My full name is Arthur Glyn Griffiths; I went straight from school to Dolgellau Collage to do a CITB course in Carpentry & Joinery sponsored by a local building firm and obtained my City & Guilds, I continued with my apprenticeship for the full term of seven years, which was then considered the minimum term of an apprentice.
I decided to go self employed in my mid 20s around 1987 and worked for myself locally for a short while before going for an interview to Manchester for a job in the Falkland Islands which I got, it involved erecting prefabricated bungalows for the fisheries on the Island.
When the Falklands job came to an end I managed to get work in London, I worked for a number of companies before settling with a company called Styles & Wood, my work with them mainly involved expedition work on a large scale, I was involved on the first & second face of the work carried out on the Imperial War Museum which the Queen opened upon completion.
I was also involved on large projects/works carried out on the London Science Museum and the National Art Gallery. I spent approximately three Years working in London before deciding to come back home to work.
I continued to work as a sole trader for some time before going into partnership with my brother In Law who is also a Carpenter in 1993/94 we traded as Griffiths & Hughes for a number of years before he decided to emigrate with his family to Australia. I continue to trade as Griffiths & Hughes even though I’m now a sole trader.
I’ve worked on numerous projects in recent years, which include Project Management. My main source of work is private and usually on the Llyn Peninsula, I also sub-contract.
Excellence and Professionalism
I strive to carry out work to the best of my ability, quite often the quality of the materials reflects on the finished project, I will endeavour to keep the quality of work to the same standard whatever the materials used. "You get what you pay for" unfortunately has a ring of truth to it especially when your choosing materials, rest assured the quality of work will always remain the same. Cleanliness tidiness is high on my list prioritys as well as the safety of co-workers.
Insured and Guaranteed
Rest assured I posses Public Liability with a £2,000,000 indemnity and a CDM Health and Safety Certificate.
All the materials used come with a manufacture guarantee, which vary in length from 1 year to 25 years and over. Due to the nature of wood it's difficult to guarantee it won't shrink, swell, split and so on. We will do our best to choose well seasoned timbers for all work and in some cases will need to acclimatise the wood in your property for a period of time prior to fitting. Moisture & Heat has a detrimental effect on timber once fitted, the client or our selves when requested must ensure that they have a decorator on hand to seal the wood to maintain its stability.
